About the bean

Although not the first place that comes to mind in the world of coffee, beans from Papua New Guinea have become a fast favourite with our customers in recent years as quality has improved with the country's increased drive to make its mark on the global coffee map.

Our current offering is from PNG's rugged eastern highlands and, specifically, the districts of Kianantu, Obura-Wonenara, Henganofi and Okapa. This collective effort known as "Tabua" represents the highest quality of coffee produced by the region - cultivated by smallholder growers managing "gardens" with pulping and sun-drying undertaken at village micro-mills.

PNG follows its own classification system. The AX grade removes the smallest and largest beans to achieve a screen size of 14-17, which is quite large (the smaller the bean, the faster it roasts).
