About the bean

Founded in 1926 and now in the hands of fourth-generation producer Thouqeer Ahamed, our new lot of washed Indian Robusta offers unusual poise thanks to its long pedigree of craft DNA on the same family land. These well-developed Kaapi Royale AA, SC 18 beans are screened for uniformity, then packed in GrainPro bags for freshness. In a specialty market where fine Robustas from India remain rare, that care is critical.

A natural for espresso and blends, this pick is dense and even, and rewards careful roasting: high charge temperatures and a measured development help heat penetrate the hard exterior, with the first crack arriving more quietly than in Arabica. A Full City profile provides the balance point before lighter or darker profiles mute the Kaapi’s sweetness. In the cup, the result upends the Robusta reputation—strong and substantial, yes, yet its malted sweetness, medium-to-low acidity and a long, persistent aftertaste make a Full City profile surprisingly enjoyable on its own. That same weight and caffeine lift are why Robusta makes its way into espresso blends typically at a 10% ratio, supplying body and density.
