About the bean

The Rwanda Small Holder Specialty Coffee Company is a vibrant, farmer-owned marketing, export, and roasting enterprise that provides smallholder coffee cooperatives with essential services—reinvesting 100% of profit in the farming community. Working in tandem with the specialty producer Gift Coffee Company, premium coffee is cultivated by local farmers (around 625 households) utilizing organic (by default) fertilization practices to elevate the region’s unique flavour profile. Arabica cherries are processed on-site, washed with pristine water from a historic nearby mountain. The project tackles poverty within the extensive community it supports, creating a brighter future for all involved.

For those of you who like their coffee smooth in the cup, on the sweet side, with amped up body and density for espresso—this Rwandan is for you. We found a brew temperature of 85-90 °C and a grind less fine gave us a darn nice result. For home roasters, these beans are dense but they roast evenly. Go dark for the shine of this pick.

RICH JASMINE. CINNAMON. COCOA. CARAMEL. RESONANT. PLEASANT.
