About the bean
Reports over time have indicated that a new era of Robusta is upon us, as growers, increasingly lured by its historically high yields compared to Arabica and its high resilience to stressors, are investing in creating premium Robusta with wide appeal at a superior price point. Well, all we can say is — we can’t believe Robusta can taste this good!
In the cup, we have the anticipated oomph and density that Robusta delivers but without the pronounced earthy and bitter taste of Robustas we have sampled before. The legendary bite is still there but improved by a hint of chocolate that makes for a tasty Robusta indeed. The crema is exceptional. For those of you sensitive to strong coffees, we would recommend blending this one with a Colombian, Brazilian, Rwanda, or Yirgacheffe for a smoother, more sweet and bright result.
Meanwhile, at nearly double the caffeine of Arabica beans, the stars are aligning for Robusta in more ways than one. A groundbreaking study involving over 130,000 participants reveals that moderate caffeine intake from coffee (and tea) may significantly reduce the risk of dementia and slow cognitive decline, suggesting that our beloved caffeine offers more than just a quick energy boost. Conducted over 43 years, the research indicates that consuming 2–3 cups of coffee or 1–2 cups of tea daily is linked to the greatest cognitive benefits, with even higher consumption showing an 18% lower dementia risk. This research highlights the potential long-term brain benefits of caffeine, challenging previous assumptions about its effects on cognitive health.
