About the bean
Esperanza is an F1 hybrid variety created by crossing the Sarchimor T-5296 with a wild Ethiopian variety (ET25), propagated through a tissue culture cloning method known as somatic embryogenesis. A rare cultivar, Costa Rica’s famed Aquiares Estate is one of the few farms globally to produce Esperanza on a commercial scale. This hybrid combines the best attributes of both the farm and cupping worlds, offering high yields, rust resistance, and an elegant flavour profile.
In the cup, we thoroughly relished this offering as a base for a range of specialty coffee drinks, from lattes to Americanos to cortados. We couldn’t stop ourselves. A sweet chocolatey pleasure with a medium acidity, and a most pleasant aftertaste. Expect a rich, sweet, and slightly more intense cup roasted to Full City or Vienna levels, with a low bitterness reminiscent of dark chocolate.
Process: African wash (fruit pulp removed), followed by a mechanical wash, finished on raised beds in a solar dryer for 18 to 24 days.
Cacao Nibs. Caramel. Dark Chocolate.
