About the bean

In Ethiopia, beans are graded either top-tier (1-2), or commercial (3-5). In this particular case, we’ve got a unique combination: a high-altitude, mineral-rich Ethiopian buoyed by sought-after citrus and spice notes at an accessible price point.

Come to think of it, you rarely see a Harrar with any other grade designation. The reason is aesthetic, not flavour. The rustic, sun-dried process that makes Harrar a Grade 4 is the exact source of its celebrated taste.

In the hand, this new lot offers an even appearance and roasts nicely, delivering a balanced cup packed with character. Expect a pleasant acidity, lovely aftertaste, and extra sweetness if you tick a touch darker. Quick to roast and easy to darken, these beans won’t all brown at the same pace — and that’s normal. Best enjoyed as espresso, French press, AeroPress or drip, this is one high-scoring and lively Harrar that holds its flavour and character.
