About the bean

Coffee from Kolen in Haiti’s southeastern highlands near the Dominican border is a premium washed Arabica celebrated for its rich character buoyed by notes of chocolate, fig, and maple syrup. Ideal for espresso, French press, and drip brews, this fully-washed offering is a unique, ethically sourced experience. Kolen benefits from volcanic soils and a microclimate akin to Jamaica’s, yielding a distinctively refined flavour influenced by Ethiopian cultivation traditions. For centuries, coffee farming has been the livelihood of Kolen’s small-scale farmers under the umbrella of the APCAB cooperative, an economic lifeline that blends exceptional taste with deep community roots.

In The Cup: A truly enjoyable pick that foregrounds the flavour notes as described with a distinctive chocolate character and pleasant finish. Expect a more creamy cup at a light to medium roast and a pronounced smoky, spice at a darker roast. The medium to low acidity drops lower still when the roast ticks darker.
