About the bean

Our current crop of FTO Colombian is from the Seynekun indigenous producers' association in the mountainous Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta region of Colombia, renowned for its calibre of quality coffee.

Indigenous families here have a long tradition of growing coffee, cultivating shade-grown beans nurtured by a philosophy of respect and care for the surrounding environment and the ancestral significance of the land. The name Seynekun translates to Mother Earth.

These particular beans were grown at altitudes between 1,500 and 1,700 metres above sea level.

The discovery

This pleaser of a bean produces an elegant cup of coffee! Sweet, as is typical of the Colombian, with floral and fruit notes (pear and apple) and a medium brightness (acidity). Expect a clean aftertaste. By contrast to the Colombian Supremo, this FTO offering is softly sweet like honey and brown sugar (as opposed to the Supremo's more chocolate character). If you like Colombian - and as one of coffeedom's most popular beans, many of us do - this Colombian is a must. A versatile bean that suits a range of brewing methods and roasting profiles. We opted for a City Roast at our taste testing but could have happily gone lighter or darker; the City was a great pick, too.
