About the bean

It's been a thrill to watch Guatemala's ASOBAGRI (Asociación Barillense de Agricultores), the supplier of our new Coffee of the Week, build on their success story over the years. Founded in 1989, ASOBAGRI became a champion of small farmers looking to grow, improve and move their beans out into the world. There's also a Canadian connection! The Montreal-based NGO, Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI), reached out to further ASOBAGRI's cause early on in the association's journey, helping to develop members' Fair Trade Organic business through market access and direct export.

With success has come life, and ASOBAGRI has weathered many difficulties in recent times, including the loss of their headquarters to a tropical storm. But their spirit remains uplifted and speaks to the soul of coffee and the people who grow it. In their own words: "Holding hands, sailing in the same boat, sharing dreams and working for a fairer world" for everyone in the circle that finds strength and purpose in the same cup.

Love is coffee!

Clean, bright and balanced. Nut-chocolate with a hint of fruit. Delivers a creamy espresso. Very tasty in the medium to dark range. As we like to say: the Guat is great!
